2021 VIRTUAL GEORGIA TROMBONE SUMMIT - AUDITION INFORMATION

Due to the Virtual format for the 2021 GTS, there is no audition required...nor is there is a cap to how many can join in the event!   We hope to have as many as possible take advantage of the expanded access and lowered cost.  

In order to select masterclass performers and mock audition finalists, we need to hear you play!  

See below for the recording requirements, and feel free to take advantage of lining up as many performance opportunities as possible!  

RECORDINGS FOR ALL PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES CAN BE SENT AFTER 

COMPLETING GTS REGISTRATION.

SOLO & ORCHESTRAL MASTERCLASSES

  • Led by Toby Oft, Stephen Lange, and James Markey

  • Limit recordings to 10 minutes or less (piano accompaniment optional)​​

  • ​ Solo, Etude, and Excerpts (1-2) will be accepted

  • State your name, instrument (tenor or bass) & repertoire

  • No splicing or editing allowed within tracks

JAZZ & COMMERCIAL MASTERCLASSES​                                                

  • Led by Marshall Gilkes

  • Up to 3 Performers per Masterclass 

  • Individuals and Jazz Bones groups are welcome for feedback

  • Limit recordings to 10 minutes or less (rhythm section accompaniment optional)​​

  • Swing, Ballad, Bop, Latin, Funk, and all other jazz/commercial styles will be accepted

  • State your name, instrument (tenor or bass) & repertoire

  • No splicing or editing allowed within tracks

ORCHESTRAL MOCK AUDITION (TENOR & BASS)

Excellent opportunity to receive extensive audition feedback (verbal and written) from the Boston Symphony Orchestra trombone section!    

Prizes for the top performers will include

  • 10 Finalists will be selected for the live mock audition

    • 6 tenor trombones

    • 4 bass trombones

Please record the following preliminary round material:

  • Tenor Trombone:

    • Berlioz - Hungarian March​

    • Mozart - Tuba Mirum

    • Ravel - Bolero

    • Wagner - Ride of the Valkyries (first major)

  • Bass Trombone:

    • Beethoven - Symphony No. 9

    • Haydn - Achieved is the Glorious Work​

    • Schumann - Symphony No. 3 "Rhenish" (chorale only)

    • Wagner - Ride of the Valkyries (second major)

  • State your name, instrument (tenor or bass) & repertoire

  • No splicing or editing allowed within individual excerpts

Final round repertoire will be selected from preliminary material plus:

  • Tenor Trombone:  Mahler - Symphony No. 3 (first solo)

  • Bass Trombone:  Kodaly - Hary Janos

ORCHESTRAL SECTION & QUARTET COACHING

  • Groups must be pre-formed and able to perform together during coaching session

  • Limit recordings to 15 minutes or less 

  • Recording repertoire and personnel should remain the same for virtual coaching 

 

  • State your names, specify Orchestral or Chamber coaching, & announce your repertoire

  • No splicing or editing allowed within tracks
