Undergraduate Audition Days for Fall 2024 admittance have been set:

To apply for admission to the UGA Hugh Hodgson School of Music, please visit the School of Music website.   



Dates for Campus Auditions are:

  • Friday - January 19

  • Saturday - January 27

  • Saturday - February 3


Application Materials must be completed by the postmark deadline of January 1, 2024 



The following degrees require an audition for entrance into the program and the UGA Trombone Studio:

  • Bachelor of Music Education

  • Bachelor of Music | Performance; Composition; Therapy

  • Bachelor of Arts

  • Music Minor


Interested students should choose two contrasting selections (an etude and a solo) that demonstrate musicianship and technical facility.    Students may also be asked to play major scales (2 octaves where possible) and sight-reading.


Suggested list below, but feel free to consult with Dr. Bynum if you have prepared something off-list.  Be sure to select repertoire that showcases your competence, versatility, and overall level of musicianship.  Play to express - not to impress.

  • Tyrell: 40 Progressive Studies (#1-15)

  • Voxman: Selected Studies (any)


Tenor Trombone - Suggested Solos:

  • David: Concertino

  • Galliard: Sonatas #1, 3, or 5

  • Grondahl: Concerto

  • Guilmant: Morceau Symphonique

  • Jacob: Concerto

  • Larsson: Concertino

  • Rimsky-Korsakov:  Concerto 

  • Saint-Saens: Cavatine

  • Sulek: Sonata vox Gabrieli

  • Telemann: Sonata in f minor

  • Weber: Romance


Bass Trombone - Suggested Etudes:

  • Blazhevich: Low Range Studies (#12-25)

  • Grigoriev: 24 Studies (#2-20)

  • Maenz: 12 Studies (any)
