  • Congratulations to Kyle Moore (MM - bass trombone) for being named a finalist for the ATW Division III National Solo Competition!  The final round will take place on March 6th at the American Trombone Workshop.  

  • Dr. Bynum will perform George Walker's Trombone Concerto with UGASO (April 2019)

  • Congratulations to the following Studio Members:

  • Dr. Bynum will perform Launy Grøndahl's Trombone Concerto with the Cumberland Orchestra at the 2019 Sewanee Summer Music Festival

  • Congratulations, and thank you to Duncan Lord (BME) as he moves into student teaching this semester!  He has been an amazing addition to the studio, and will be missed.

  • Dr. Bynum will be a featured soloist with the UGA Wind Symphony for two concerts this fall.  He will perform Anthony Barfield's Red Sky on their October 25th concert, and for MidFest - on December 7th.

  • The UGA Trombone Choir will be performing for the President's Reception at the 2017 GMEA Conference on Friday, January 27th.  Stay tuned for program info!

  • Congratulations, and thank you to both Dustin Cofer (BME) and Brad Gwynn (BME) as they move into student teaching next semester!  Both have been amazing additions to the studio, and will be missed as they move on to bigger and better things.  

  • Congratulations to Paul Nelson (Junior BM) for the upcoming EP release from his band Mister Tie-Dye!  Paul handles the trombone duties and arranges charts for the group. Bravo!

  • Congratulations to Luke Riddle (Freshman BME) for getting a call back with the Phantom Regiment!  Next round will be in mid-January!

  • Dr. Bynum will be soloing with the Hodgson Wind Ensemble on Thursday 10/6 @ 8pm in Hodgson Hall.  He will be giving the state premiere of Dana Wilson's Concerto for Trombone.  Live Stream @ 8pm EST

 

  • Congratulations to Paul Nelson (BM - Junior) for the successful premiere performance of his group              Mister Tie-Dye!  The group recently played a two hour set to a packed house at Hendershots, and featured several of Paul's arrangements and originals.

  • Dr. Bynum has been asked to play the entire 2015-16 season with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra! As a sign of strong support from the UGA administration, he has received a partial leave for the academic year.  Nathan Zgonc & Brian Hecht have both signed on to help with the weekly schedule.  Each student will receive lessons from Bynum, Zgonc, and Hecht in a rotational system.  

 

  • Congratulations to Thomas Carroll (BM) for recently completing USMC basic training.  Thomas was tapped for the Officer Candidate Program, and will enter the Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant upon graduation from UGA this spring.  Thomas is a double-major in Music Performance & Physics, Volunteer Firefighter, Section Leader for Redcoats, Iron Man Competitions....and still practices more than most!  We are very proud of you Thomas!

 

  • Be looking for Dr. Bynum's new commercial solo release to hit the shelves in mid-August.  Catalyst features the music of Anthony Plog, Aaron Copland, Ludwig van Beethoven, Gabriel Stockhausen, and Jean-Michel Defaye.  It will be available through Potenza Music.  

 

  • Congratulations to the new Redcoats Section Leaders:  Thomas Carroll, Paul Nelson, and Malik Henry!

                                                                        

 

  • Congratulations to Matt Norman (MM) for being named a finalist in the ITA Lewis Van Haney Orchestral Excerpt Competition!  The finals were held at the ITF in Valencia, Spain.  Matt played well and was runner-up.  Matt has also been named as a participant for the 2015 Alessi Seminar!  

 

  • Farewell and thank you to several outstanding individuals who will not be with us next year!   Austin Blake, Kevin Schoeller, Ally Moody, Damon Haynie, Larry Starkey, and Chris Brown.  You are all very special people, and we wish you the very best.  Don't be strangers!

 

  • Congratulations to Chris Brown (DMA) for being named a semi-finalist for the New World Symphony Orchestra bass trombone audition!  Chris also recently received 3rd place at the 2015 Zellmer Trombone Competition - sponsored by the Minnesota Orchestra.  

 

  • Congratulations to Austin Blake (MM) for accepting a position (after succesful audition) into the US Navy Fleet Bands! Anchors Aweigh, Austin...we'll miss you next year!

 

  • Congratulations to Jake Reeves (BM) for being accepted into the 2015 Eastern Music Festival! Jake was also the State Winner for the MTNA Young Artist Solo Competition!

 

  • Congratulations to Kevin Schoeller (BM/BME) for accepting a TA at the University of Wisconsin.  He will be entering the MM program, where he will study with Mark Hetzler.  Kevin also received offers from Indiana University (among others).  Kevin was recently named runner-up for the State Division of the MTNA Young Artist Solo Competition!

 

  • Congratulations to Wilson Wong (DMA) for being appointed as a Counselor at this summer's Masterworks Festival! Wilson was also recently named a finalist for the New World Symphony Orchestra (bass trombone)!

 

  • Congratulations to Luke Anders (BA) for recently being named as a Tate Scholar for UGA!  Double majoring in Biology and Music...and he makes it look easy!

 

  • Congratulations to Brad Gwynn and Dustin Cofer for successfully passing their Sophomore Barrier Exam!
