Since the fall of 2018, Crews Owen has been pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance at the University of Georgia. Crews is now a senior in Dr. Josh Bynum’s trombone studio. Crews is currently in the Hodgson Wind Symphony and UGA Jazz I, and has performed with the UGA Symphony Orchestra, the UGA British Brass Band, and the UGA Trombone Choir.

Outside of UGA, he has played for Next Act’s production of “Company,” performed with the Westminster Summer Concert Band, the American Trombone Workshop with the UGA trombone choir, and attended some exciting summer music festivals. Including the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, the Southeast Trombone Symposium, and the International Trombone Festival.

When accepted into UGA’s Hugh Hodgson School of Music, Crews was awarded a music scholarship to go along with the Hope Scholarship. Recently, he was a recipient of the UGA Foundation Band Scholarship, which is awarded to UGA’s most outstanding band students. On top of the music accolades, Crews has landed on the Dean’s List in multiple.

Crews chose UGA because of the welcoming atmosphere of the people around him and the high standard of excellence established by the university. Crews chose music because ever since he was born, he was always gravitated towards music. As a person with Asperger’s Syndrome (a mild form of Autism), Crews sometimes has problems socializing. Music served as a form of communication and understanding that anyone can identify with. Crews’s favorite musical memories are the relationships built in the process of making music. Including making new friends, working with highly talented musicians and conductors, and spending time with his family after every concert.

In his spare time, Crews loves being with his friends and family, watching football, streaming, playing video games, writing, and playing with dogs. He especially loves rooting for the Georgia Bulldogs, the reigning national champions! Go Dawgs!
