From the start of 2019 till now, Ivan Baquerizo has been a member of the University of Georgia Trombone Studio after auditioning in late 2018 as a transfer student from the University of North Georgia. During his time at the University, he has served as a member of various large and small ensembles, such as the Universities Symphonic Band, University Wind Ensemble, University Chorus, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, and the University Trombone Choir.
Ivan is currently pursuing a bachelor’s in music education and a jazz minor and is also a member of the International Trombone Association. Ivan also serves as a member of the AARI (Actionable Anti-Racism and Inclusion) at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music and also the Engagement Director for CNAFME (Collegiate National Association For Music Educators).
Before coming to the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, Ivan was performing and seeking out opportunities as a freelance trombonist in Athens, GA, while completing his core studies at the University of North Georgia. Ivan later transferred to the University of Georgia to study under Dr. Joshua Bynum. During this time, his focus has been both on mastery of the trombone but also to become an efficient educator.
Throughout his time at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, Ivan has become one of the founding members of the Athens Short Bones Trombone Quartet and the assistant director of MP Theater Groups, Late Night Goons (Jazz Combo). Ivan is also on call for various local bands in Athens, GA for either performances or recordings.
Currently Ivan is set to graduate in December 2022 and aiming to pursue his masters in performance.
